An AI chatbot for your UAE website: what it can and cannot answer

Automation9 min readPublished 2026-10-10Updated 2026-10-10

An AI assistant on your website can answer questions from your own catalogue, prices, opening hours and policies, in English and Arabic, and hand over to a person when unsure. It should not decide refunds, quote exceptions or give advice. Our AI assistants start from AED 3,950 and typically reach AED 14,500, excluding 5% VAT.

A customer visits your site at 11 pm and asks, "Do you deliver to Sharjah, and is the 50ml in stock?" Nobody is awake. They leave and buy somewhere that answered. You have heard that an AI chatbot can fix this. You have also heard it can say silly things. Both are true.

What an AI assistant on your website really is

Forget the word chatbot for a moment. The older kind followed a script: press 1 for opening hours, press 2 for delivery. The newer kind reads a question written in normal language and writes an answer. When it is built properly, it writes that answer only from material you gave it: your product list, your price list, your delivery and returns policy, your frequently asked questions.

That last part is the whole point. A general tool such as ChatGPT knows a lot about the world and nothing reliable about your shop. An assistant built for your business is limited to your facts, and told to say "I am not sure, let me get a person" when it does not find an answer. Our AI assistant service is built on that principle.

What it answers well

  • Product questions: size, material, what is in the box, which model suits which use.
  • Availability and delivery areas, when connected to your stock or delivery rules.
  • Opening hours, location, parking, how to book.
  • Policy basics: returns window, warranty terms, payment methods such as Tabby, Tamara, cards and cash on delivery.
  • Order status, when connected to your store or ERP.
  • Lead capture: asking a visitor's name, number and need, then passing it to your team.

These make up a large share of the questions most small businesses receive every day. They are repetitive, factual and written down somewhere already.

What it should not answer on its own

TopicWhy a person should handle itWhat the assistant should do

Anything not in its materialIt could invent an answerSay it is not sure and offer a person

Good assistants are defined as much by what they refuse as by what they answer. Ask any supplier, including us, to show you what happens when you ask something outside the script. If the answer is a confident guess, walk away.

The hand-off is the feature that matters most

A hand-off means the conversation moves to a human without the customer repeating themselves. In practice this looks like:

  • The assistant says, "I will pass you to the team" and shares the chat so far.
  • Your staff see the whole conversation in an inbox, or on WhatsApp, and reply from there.
  • Outside working hours, the assistant takes name and number and promises a call back at a stated time.
  • A customer can type "talk to a person" at any point and it works.

If you already run WhatsApp, the same assistant can sit in both places, website and WhatsApp, with one inbox. Fees on the WhatsApp side are explained in our post on WhatsApp Business API cost in the UAE.

Arabic and English

Most UAE customers move between Arabic and English, sometimes inside one message. A well-built assistant can read both and reply in the language the customer used. Two honest points, though.

  • Quality differs between formal Arabic, Gulf dialect and mixed Arabic and English. Test with real messages from your own customers, not only the examples a supplier chooses.
  • Your own material must exist in both languages. If your delivery policy exists only in English, the Arabic answers will be translations, and a native speaker should check them.

Also make sure the chat window itself works right to left. Our guide to a Shopify Arabic store covers the layout side, and Arabic right-to-left design is included in our design phase on custom tiers and is an add-on of about AED 1,750 on the launch tier.

Your data, and when to ask a lawyer

A chat window collects names, phone numbers and sometimes sensitive details. Before launch, decide what is stored, for how long and who can see it, and tell visitors in your privacy notice. We build the assistant so that you hold the accounts and the data. We are not lawyers: please confirm with a qualified UAE lawyer how the federal personal data protection law (PDPL) and any free-zone rules apply to your business, particularly if you handle health or financial information.

What it costs in AED

What you needFrom (AED, excl. 5% VAT)Typical time
WhatsApp assistant: hours, FAQs, hand-off to staff1,4501 to 2 weeks
AI assistant on your website, answering from your catalogue and FAQ3,9502 to 4 weeks
AI assistant with order status, bookings, lead capture, English and Arabicup to 14,5003 to 4 weeks
Care plan: tuning answers, adding new products and policiesfrom 790 per monthMonthly

A fuller picture of the work is on our pricing page. Two running costs sit on top of the build. First, the AI model usage, which is billed by the model provider according to how much customers chat, and varies. Second, if you also use WhatsApp, Meta and provider fees. We show you both before you commit. Payment is 50% at the start and 50% at launch for projects under AED 20,000.

✓ Model usage and WhatsApp fees are set by third parties and change. Checked October 2026. Confirm current rates with the providers before you budget.

How we would build it

  1. Collect your real questions from WhatsApp, email and calls. Pick the top 30 to 50.
  2. Gather the facts those answers rely on: products, prices, policies, areas, hours.
  3. Write the rules: what the assistant answers, what it refuses, when it hands over.
  4. Build, then test with your staff using awkward questions and Arabic messages.
  5. Launch quietly, read the first two weeks of conversations together, and fix the gaps.

Step five is the one most suppliers skip. The first two weeks tell you more than any plan. A real estate agency, for instance, will find that buyers ask about service charges and payment plans, and the team can then decide which answers the assistant may give and which belong to an agent. Our page for real estate agencies shows how that split can work.

Questions to ask any supplier

  • Does the assistant answer only from my material, and what does it do when it cannot find an answer?
  • Can I read every conversation, and can I correct a wrong answer myself?
  • Where is the chat data stored, who can see it, and can I delete it?
  • What are the running costs after launch: model usage, hosting, updates?
  • Who owns the accounts, the prompts and the code if I stop working with you?
  • Can you show a live example in Arabic, with a customer who mixes languages?

A supplier who answers these clearly is easy to work with later. One who changes the subject is telling you something. For our own work, you hold the accounts and the code, and there is a 30-day fix window after launch.

Keeping answers right after launch

An assistant is not finished on launch day. Prices change, products sell out and policies are updated. If nobody feeds it the new facts, it will answer confidently from old ones, which is worse than silence.

  • Name one person in your team as the owner of the assistant's content.
  • Update it whenever you change a price, a policy or a delivery area.
  • Read a sample of conversations each week for the first month, then monthly.
  • Keep a list of questions it could not answer. Those are your next additions.

This is light work, an hour or two a week at first. If you prefer, a care plan from AED 395 per month covers the tuning for you.

Is it right for you?

  • You get the same ten questions again and again: yes.
  • You are open 9 to 6 but customers browse at night: yes.
  • Every enquiry is bespoke and high value, such as a custom villa build: lead capture only.
  • You have fewer than a few enquiries a day: probably not yet. A clear FAQ page and a WhatsApp button will do.

We do not promise more sales. We can promise that questions get answered faster and that your staff spend less time on repeated ones. What that does to revenue depends on your business.

We cannot give legal advice. Confirm with a qualified UAE lawyer how the PDPL applies to your data, especially if you collect health or financial information.

Yes. Hand-off to staff, with the full conversation, is a core part of every build, and customers can ask for a person at any time.
